Movie Trailer Courses?

Hi All,

New here so please be patient. I have been making films for a few years now, and feel I have dipped my toe in enough areas of film-making to know that I want to produce movie trailers.

Does anyone out there know of a specialist course UK or elsewhere, (I am moving stateside shortly) where I might be able to enroll?

I have been ripping DVD's for some time to produce my own trailers in different genres...ie taking something like Fight Club and making a "Romantic Comedy" trailer using the footage from the movie.

I think I have gotten pretty good and would very much like to get into it seriously.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks.

I don't think I've ever heard of a editor that does only trailers, but theres bound to be a niche for that somewhere.

Sorry for the lack of constructive advice.

I know this... the movie trailer companies are not affiliated with the production companies... I'll try to find out more.

Well since you asked...
As I said before I havent ever found someone whos job is specifically to assemble trailers. That said I have met editors who specialize in this aspect. A few editors I have talked with have said that there are certain guys who are baisically annother part of the edition team, the have input into the editing of whatever the team is editing advision the head editor and such, but when it comes to trailers they take the helm because thats their area of expertese.

Its my assesment that you might want to talk to some people and find out if theres a spot like that available.

Thanks Mandor, much appreciated, any info is more than welcome I seem to be banging my head against a brick wall on this matter mostly.

Focus Puller, I would be more than interested in any additional info you could throw on this if you find anything out.

Listen Guys, thanks for this...

Sounds like your doing the right thing by practicing. I don't know of a course you can take. So I'd say your best bet is to get a job editting somewhere, making that your expertise.

But it sounds like you have alot of practice, so if you wouldn't mind checking out the first trailer I've ever made, and giving me suggestions, I'd appreciate it. Click the link below and email me your thoughts at donegreg?pizzathemovie.com
