Does anyone have a tutorial or info on how to make sword/spear/ext stabs look real and as if they're actually going through someone instead of the whole sword between arm and ribs trick? Thanks

There are alot of ways to do this. It would depend on what way you would want to do it. If you have a lot of 3D experience it would be really easy to do it CGI, but you would need some profesional software and, like i said, a lot of experience in 3D. If you like to work with your hands you could make a sword so when it stabs it folds into itself so it looks like its going in. So it really depends on what you wonna do.

I have after effect 7.0 pro and I'm decently good with it but I don't know how to go about doing that. That's why i was wondering if anyone had a tutorial or knew how to do it

plus i think fake swords look terrible. I only use carbon steel swords (stainless for less important roles or swords that wont see "combat")

(1) Use a half sword and animate in the tip. That way you can control the tip disappearing into the body. (2) PUt the victim in a shirt with a green-screen colored circle in the area the blade will hit. Create a torso with fake skin and filled with blood or pig guts or whatever, put the targets shirt on it (without the green circle). Stab the same location and composite the two together If the target isn't moving at the time of the blow it should be easy. If they are you might need some kind of fancy compositing software to track.

If you could manage to get a sword that folds in on its self realistically then that would be alot quicker, then have a blood pack to explode. just try a few ides and see which work best.

Thanks

Another consideration is if the sword blow is a stab or a chop. A chop could easily be done.

Imagine two swordsmen with a pole in between them. Ontop of the pole is a bag of fake guts and blood. Camera behind the victim so that the pole and blood bag is hidden from view. Work your focus so that the swordsmen look close together and have the swordsman swing and smash the bag. From behind the victim the cut will probably look convincing. The bag provides resistence as well as gore.

Then cut to the front fo the vicitm clutching his bloody wound, the agony on his face as he drops to his knees and you've got your shot.
