Try learning first on the basic Avid programs first, Avid Free DV is (as the name suggests) free and avalible somewhere online. Its damm easy to use (i would reccomend it over imovie) and will give you a taste of what the Avid interface is like, once you get that work up to Express or Media Composer and you should be able to easily get into any Version of Avid. However some people pick up software easier than others, some people wont need a course, all you need is to hit F1 and read the help file.
