For years now I have been putting my films onto VHS. I tried with DVD but the file size on the disc is just to small. Does anybody know of a cheap blank dvd with more than 4.7 GB on them. Sorry, I'm not really good with discs. I think film is better.

Film is a story told with moving pictures...

Basically you need a double-layer DVD. Can your DVD writer write to them? Anything made in the last year or so should, but certainly mine won't.

My computer should be able to write them. Do you know where I can get a Double-Layer DVD. And how much are they?

Thanks for the help.

When the script writing is done, the work has just begun. When the filming is done, the work has just begun. When post-production is done, the work has just begun. When the distribution is done, you decide if the work is done.

Double-layer DVDs are still quite pricey, though, and the burners still don't come standard on too many computers. Your projects must be quite long if you can't fit them on single-layer discs.

To make a DVD playable in a set-top player you'll need to "author" the disc using a program like Apple DVD Studio Pro or Adobe Encore. This entails making a menu system and compressing your video into MPEG-2 format. You should be able to change some bit rate settings in the compression process that will let you fit a lot of video on a single-layer DVD--even upwards of two hours if you sacrifice some picture quality (you'll still get a better picture than VHS), although you can easily fit on 60 to 90 minutes without any noticeable drop in picture quality.
