How is this done?

Found this video on google, it does take a while to play, but if you leave it for a few mins then press play it should work:

Is it just loads of still pictures or?

It's animation. Each movement is captured one frame at a time. The subject (in this case the performer) will stand, one frame will be shot, the subject will move, one frame is shot, the subject will move, one frame is shot.

When the performer appears to be floating, it's the same - the subject will jump, one frame is shot, the subject will jump, one frame is shot, the subject will jump, one frame is shot.
