I know how green screen works, but how in the world do you get the images and stuff to replace the green? Do you just snap a photo and put it on there? I also saw a Rodriguez movie where he used green screen but the artificial background was moving. How do you do that?

I know it's a long line of questions, but I'm curious as to how they do that kind of stuff.

Thanks for your help.

well just to clarify,

a green screen works by basically taking out one color from a frame(or assortment of frames in a video) and making that color transparent. therefore, you can put anything you want behind the video and it will take the place of the color. it acts sort of like a window behind you, in which you can put anything you want, to make something move behind you you just put a video.
the reason why a lime green is used is it is far away from skin tone, so the actual person wont become clear, and because it is not a common clothing color. blue is actually the farthest away from skin tone, but it IS a common clothing color, so green is used more often than not.
so, again, if you want the background to move just put a video of a moving background. whatever you put behind those frames will appear.
in terms of software, your going to need a more advanced editing software like the adobe products. personally i use vegas, but anything with a chroma keyer works (that is just the process of taking out that one color). i also believe you can buy software specifically for more advanced chroma keying?
if i dint answer your questions in that summary, just clarify a little more, i'd be more than happy to help 😕

Yes, I know that you replace the green and that kind of stuff. What I was trying to ask was how do you get the images that will replace the background. Are they just on the computer? Do you grab a camera and snap a photo? That's basically what I'm trying to say. Though, I'm assuming you already answered that for me when you were talking about the moving background part.

Thanks for your advice Own3D.

well images can be bought, downloaded, you can take a photo, anything to get a photo file on your computer to put in the background.

Yup. That's one of the great things about living in the digital age. You can get a picture from almost anywhere.

Well, if this answers your question, you can shoot them on blue screen. This way, you don't even have to worry about army uniforms at all. Just don't use anything blue.

I don't know if that's the answer you're looking for, but it's the best I can give you.

nope thats perfect. if you are concerned about the green on their uniforms a blue screen would be a better choice.
