Hey. I've been filming a movie with my Super 8 camera. I'm going to take the film to get dubbed to high resolution avi. I'm using Premier 6.5 for editing.

What format (resolution etc) do you recommend for editing?

Is AVI prefered over MPEG. Is there standard AVI settings that work better than others. etc?

AVI and MPEG are two different systems for video. MPEG is a codec and a container, where as AVI is simply a container (in to which you can place different codecs).

It probably depends on what your output format is going to be, but if you have a digital camera available, it might be easiest to have the Super 8 transferred to MiniDV (or DVCAM etc) so that you can then capture it via Firewire from your digital camera or DV deck. This also means you can simply output it back to DV when you have your finished cut.
