Hey...
I've been hearing the big thing today is the firewire cable, with its transfer rate of 400 mps, or something like that.
But I have a problem. I can't find my computers firewire port. I have an HP windows 2000.
So then someone told me my computer doesn't have a forewire port. They see I need a firewire port card. What is that? If I need one, where do I plug it in to my computer? Is it like a video card?
Any information or links, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Most computers don't come with a firewire port oh and might i ad that that is just the mac term for it, sony calls it the i-link and its real name is the ieee 1394 port but anyways ure most likely gona have to purchase it seperately and it plugs into the inside of ure computer the same way as ure video card or ure sound card or ure ethernet card plugs in. All mini DV camcorders use this type of connection to download ure movie on to ure computer because this cable allows u to transfer video without any frame loss. its about the same size as a usb port but shaped a lil different.

OK, I have no clue where my video card is...
When you say I plug it into the INSIDE of my computer, what do you mean? I looked, and I don't see any slots for a card...
Do I have to take out my video card and put it in the firewire card? Also, is the video card where all the external connections plug into?

You're going to have to open up your computer and insert the firewire card, if there's room for you to add it. Umm, I suggest you find someone who knows computers to do it if you can't, or maybe take it to a shop to have done.
Ok. Thanks a lot, Astral. You too, Mudbikes.

Loads of different companies make firewire cards. Try the following for starters:

When searching for a FireWire card, make sure you find one that is OHCI compliant. Some generic cards won't allow you to transfer the video at an adequate speed. Also, make sure your computer has a free PCI slot, or one you can free up, before you invest the cash. As someone else suggested, it sounds as if you should take your PC to a computer professional.
Yeah if ure not shure u should bring it in to get done cuz this is an inside job

Yes, do have someone put it in if you're not sure. DON'T take out your video card, you'll need it to like see things.
I also highly highly recommend taking a computer building class. Google StRUT, I belive it's a nation wide thing. Once you learn that you can build yourself a lean mean movie makin' machine for cheaper than buying a brand new turnkey

Well, isn't that something.
