I need some help with putting together an editing system. I did a lot of editing in college and am very good on premiere and final cut. However, I really don't know much about the technical specifics. I have looked around this website a lot, and its all really helpful. I could use a sort of dumbed down version though.
I have a Panasonic DVX100B.
I hoped to buy a new MacBook and run Final Cut.
Are there any compatibility issues here? What do you guys recommend? Id really like to keep as far under 4000 bucks as possible.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Make sure you have a firewire port on the camera, but thats a given. From there its not a problem, just pay attention when loading Final Cut to what your import presets will be. you can change them later, but if you're just using this camera, you should be good.
PAL or NTSC?
That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough! I'm going to clown college!

Welcome to filmmaking.net!
The new MacBook will run FCP and is compatible with the DVX. Get as much RAM as you can afford. Other than that what technical specifics do you need. It's kind of difficult to just through every tech spec there is out there and hope than one or two of them is what you need.

After doing some research, Im thinking about going with a PC now. Its just so much cheaper and seems that i will be as effective to use premiere as FCP.
What I am looking at is
HP Media Center PC with Viiv
640 GB Hard Drive
2 GB Ram
22inch Monitor.
We can get it for about 1800 bucks including the full 3 year service plan and they throw in a free scanner/printer
Any thoughts?
thanks again to all.
