I'd like to know what moive editing software do the pros use? Also, is the editing of film completely different from editing of digital video?

Thanks in advance.

If by "pros" you mean people getting paid to edit then; the answer is simple, yet not what you're looking for:

Pros use the software they like best.

Avid - Final Cut - Premiere - Pinnacle - Vegas - Unled are all used by pros.

Yes. Very different.

Well, not _that_ different. You get telecine tapes, edit the tapes on your PC or Mac and then send off an EDL to get the negative cut... the actual editing is otherwise very similar.

True. When transferring your film to digital and editing there is no difference - just a couple of more steps.

I took the question to mean is editing film different than editing digital video.

In that case, the actual editing process (not the creative process) is very different.

I use Final Cut Pro 4, It's one of the best programs I've ever seen. I had to buy a new computer just to run the software since it only works on apples. But I prefer an apple for video editing anyway.

I think the question you want to ask is "what is the industry standard?"

and the answer is:

offline editing - avid technoligy (media composer, symphony, avid xpress pro dv)

online editing - discreet technoligy (smoke, flint, fire, flame)

you can say "well fcp is just as good" or "after effects can composite fine" and thats all true but 90% of the major motion pictures and commercials us that software and hardware.
