What's up guys? It's my first post ?:D?
Dig this.
I know most people on here are head over heels for digital, but I'm hoping there are some nostalgic folks around who can help me out.
I just acquired a 16mm, 6-reel Moviola flatbed editing station and am looking to sell it here in Austin. Unfortunately, I have no idea how much these monsters are worth! Is there still a market for these things? How much should I ask for it?!?!
This one in particular has a little bit of cosmetic wear on the edges, but all the lights turn on and all the wheels spin when they're supposed to spin. Hell, even the built-in ash tray looks to be in good shape. This thing looks and smells like a solid piece of equipment!
Thanks in advance!
Simple answer: you'll be lucky if you don't have to pay someone to take it away. I've been offered them on two occasions, but have no use for them or anywhere to put them.
Fandamntastic. That's exactly what I didn't want to hear.
Whelp, thanks.
I saw one listed on eBay about eight months ago - reserve of $500 - and it didn't sell. I was quite interested because I, too, have one of these that I picked up for $100 about two years ago.
I think I'm going to take out the guts and use it as my editing table for my computer - a little old school feel in my high tech editing suite.

Yeaaaah.. I've thought about Ebay. Steven Spielberg's personal Moviola flatbed just sold on there for around $1500. Of course it's a collector's item, and we all know he probably needed the money in a pinch to suit his "habits", but, well, I'm a little bit weary to attempt to sell something this monstrous on Ebay. It weighs 323. It took 4 guys to get it into my living room... I guess these are questions for the USPS or UPS.
... I know it can be done.... but to what end!? It's the world's biggest paper weight.
Ouch!
Yeah, if you can find what movies it was used for (if any), then it may have some value on ebay. But they are big and heavy and not too useful these days, unfortunately.
