So I shot a 2min. 30sec. short last year in April on S16mm. I had the rushes telecined (mute) to digi-beta with a one light grade, did an offline cut in FCP (there were few lines of dialogue so it wasn't a big issue), had a best-light grade done, then had a friend sych up the audio from my location sound (from DAT - he also did the sound design with Pro-Tools, though he's only ever work as a sound engineer in music) added music and titles and now have it ready to lay back out onto digi-beta. I've showed the cut to a few people and a couple have suggested going all the way and having the neg cut and conformed to my EDL, blowing it up to 35mm and making a bi-optical (?) print. It would seem that to have a print would be a much better way to get it into festivals but what I want to know is how difficult is this process (would I need to re-do the sound mix, etc) and what could I expect to pay (I'm London based)? Should I be happy just to have a digital version??
