I have a problem, I want to create a spectacular graphic using motion 2 which came with the final cut pro suit i use at my school, so here's the hypothetical question: is it possible to have the name of a studio in 3D letters come in from the side, surge with electricity, break apart and be sucked into a vorex, or am I just wasting my time

I have FCP Studio 5 but I have yet to mess with Motion. For something like that I still rely on After Effects and 3DS Max. Let me know if you figure it out, or if you'd like to see an example done up with my tools. If you use it, I'd just ask for credit.

To pull that off succesfully you'd need to know a 3D package to make the letters shake and then blow apart.
You would need AE to add the electricity, probably with a plug-in like Boris Continuum. The same app could also make your vortex.
You could piece the whole thing together in AE, but I'd opt for FCP to handle the letter entry and then add your audio FX.

You could use AE in basic 3D to do a budget version of the whole thing too! Wouldn't look as good though.
