Please I need help. In my movie, the main character will be caught outside in the rain. The rain will be easy, however, bright blue California skies will not convince my audience that he really is in the rain. I don't know how to darken just the sky so it looks darker and grayer. Any help would be appreciated. I have a couple of editing programs, so I just need a push in the right direction.

try getting adobe after fx. keying out skies is genreally fairly easy because of the clearly defined area (if you're not shooting through heavy foilage or stuff like that). after fx has very powerful tools for colouring, and i can definitely recommend it.

After reading some of the better commentaries i recently got a copy of sonic foundry vegas and i think i immediatly found a good solution to your problem. If u have vegas just go to the video fx section and look for color curves effect, there should be one in there called night. By adjusting it might be able to get the desired effect

Try making a downwards gradient of dark blue to medium grey in PhosoShop, then adding it over your footage in After Effects and setting it to multiply.

you could use a polarizing filter. with a polarizer, the brighter and clearer the blue sky, the darker it will appear on film. i'm not sure about video.
Polarisers will work with video cameras, the problem is that unless the camera is stationary the effect will change as you move it around.
