okay, so halfway through my editing project my computer has just become infected with a vicious worm/virus/spyware that i cannot get rid of. i'm going to have to format the computer.

only problem is that i haven't finished editing a 40 minute long movie and there's about 60 gigs worth of raw footage, and about 20 minutes worth of edited footage on my premier.

so how do i save it? forget about the raw footage, but the edited project so far. i'm trying to burn what i have onto a dvd so i'll have a dvd movie of what i have so far, and than extract it later and put it back into a future premier session...

but is there a way i can save the actual editing session that i can input directly into adobe later? HELP!!

ps... the dvd burning thing might not even work because it crashes half way through the application now.

First question to ask yourself is, is there any chance the edited section is infected and that by saving it you might reinfect everything?

i thought about that, and i doubt it. most of the infected files seem to be isolated in the registry and stuff...

It's highly unlikely that a virus would infect a video file anyway, so I think you're okay on that front. As for saving a copy of the editing session... I assume Premiere probably saves the editing session as a series of files in a folder somewhere. Rather than making a dvd movie of what you have, I would think you should be able to make a data dvd disc and put those files on it... that way you can just drag and drop them back onto the hard drive when all is well with the computer again... but again, I'm no expert in Premiere, that's just how I would go about it.

Well, if the DVD Burning works go ahead a burn it. Then do whatever you have to do to your computer. Then rip the DVD using freewear from the internet. Convert it, you got you project back as a mpeg.

okay, i have an external harddrive set up where i can send all of the files contained in the adobe premier folders...

now, after i format and re-install adobe premier... do i just move the video files, and the project file back into the new folders? should that restore the project exactly how it was?

I would think it should work fine doing it in that manner. However, like I said, I am no expert. If you can burn what you have done so far as a DVD movie as well, you might do well to do that as well. Wow... that sounded very ridiculous. Forgive me, it's midnight:30 here and I'm at work fixing people's internet problems. Anyway, back it up any and every way you can before reformatting. It's better to spend a little time and effort now than to re-do EVERYTHING later.
