Anyone know how I could make dialogue sound like it's coming from a cell phone? I have Adobe Premiere and Sony Sound Forge.

I have a similar problem of making dialogue sound as if its coming over the radio.

Worst case scenerio I can dump the sound to an ipod and play it over the car radio (or play over cell phone) so I can record it a second time. Still I figure there is probably some known filter that creates the effect and that would be less hassle.

You could try Virtual DJ. You can download that for free for a whole 21 days and mess about with that. You can do things like dampening sound and adding a hiss to it. I used it for making it seem as though music is coming from a different room.

I think we did that in the past just using the equalisation filter in Premiere. I forget the settings we used, but I believe cellphones lose a lot of bass due to the tiny speakers and cut off high frequencies around 4kHz so they don't have to transmit a lot of data.

of course the best answer would be pro tools. Bit i've always favored cool edit pro. Its a very cheap program that you can now find for free all over the net. It come with lots of good effects and you can download countless plugins. THis is what I use to do most of my recording.

I would suggest Adobe Audition (formerly cool edit pro). It has many effect for sound and several plug-ins for it. I have used this program for a cell-phone effect, and it turned out pretty good. The voice sounded muffled enough to make it sound like it is coming from a cell-phone, but it is clear enough to be understood.
