I'm in dire need of some sound counceling. I am trying to record voiceovers into FCP 4. I've tried Garage band and Soundtrack (neither of which I know anything about) and I cannot seem to get the external mic to record in either. The built in recorder doesn't sound at all the way I want it to.
Does anyone know of a way to turn the external mic on (the systems settings already have it highlighted as the working one) Or can anyone explain to me a simple way to record straight into FCP. It's a 30 second, one voice, V.O.
My last hope is to record on mini disc and drop that data into the computer, but if there's a more direct way I would love to know about it.
Thanks everyone,

I have never even tried using the external mic on my computer. I can't imagine it would be any good. So I can't answer your question. But I have one for you:
Why don't you want to record the VO using a high quality mic and mini disc or (better yet) DAT?

originally that's where I had the VO recorded, on mini disc using a high end mic. The cable that I needed for input into FCP wasn't available though. I was short on time and the producer wanted to see something, so I was trying to expedite the process. That didn't work, although you "should" technically be able to use a high end external mic hooked to the computer and record directly through it. (There has to be a way). Two days later I got the cord and I'm just going to input it from the mini disc player.
Thanks though,
