Could someone tell me?

I want to make a back up of my work just incase something happens to my pc which it usally does. (especially when i need it most).

Is there a way i can transfer all my timecodes etc so that if i have to reinstall my film it will automatically edit my film into its finished edit.

i.e. i capture all my shot footage, pc looks at timecodes and edits it into its finish cut.

????

Hi there,

for back-up purposes you can you number of software: i personally prefer Acronis (Symantec Ghost is also ok).

This software products make the image of your partition (or folders, or entire hardrive) and store them in the image file as is. In case something happens to the computer you will be able to restore the image and it will be the same as it was before the crash.

It is recommended that you keep your DV files on the separate drive though.

P.S. Besides this software can back up anything, including the system and your personal setting in one image file, so that it will require just 10-15 minutes to restore the system.

Hope this helps.

if its 170gb, its better to invest in another hard drive where you will back it up.

In case of backing up with acronis or ghost all the files (including time codes) are stored as they are, without any changes.

Blue-Ray might be another option, but you'd still need multiple disks. Otherwise there's a big tape drive but even then you're looking at multiple tapes.

However, with most editing programs you only need to save the project file with the timecodes and then it can automatically re-capture any footage that's missing.

Or invest in a DAT drive to back everything up onto a single tape.
