i was wondering if anyone knew how to go about altering vhs film either manually or with chemicals to add effects. i've been dabbling with some splicing effects and would like to maybe also chemically alter the film...i've heard silver chloride may do something...i don't really know anything about this and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or insight. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

VHS TAPE? I think you're mixing this up with movie film. Because it stores the signal magnetically rather than optically, treating the tape with silver chloride is going to do nothing more than destroy your playhead.

However, if you're going for a grungy, static-y look, physical tape splices could have an interesting effect, as well as exposing the tape to weak magnets.

Hope this helps, although I think I'm probably misinterpreting your question.
