Hi all,
I can't seem to get any sound when I play a project in after effects 7. When a movie is exported there is sound, but not while I'm working on a project.
Can't seem to figure out why? Tried various ettings, so much be doing something dramatically wrong.
Thanks
No one have any ideas on why there's no sound?

I tried a demo of Afer Effects once, same issue, usenet research determined it is inherent if your system is not fast enough. Tremendous amount of processing required, and drive speed, for sound with video real time preview of effects, etc. You need a smoking fast system, maybe quad core, and blazing fast SATA RAID-0 (striped array). Part of it is the software code, because I had not problems at all with Sony Vegas, but AVID, After Effects, and Adobe Premiere all gave me that same issue of choppy or no sound during editing (no problems at all with Vegas).

Thanks for the info.
I've got a Quad core with over 3GB of Ram, but no RAID. Could tehre eb another reason?
I've got premier pro 2 and don't have any issues with that at all.

RAID 0 (RAID zero; striped array) might help, also very fast drives-- I just put in four SATA drives in my dual core system-- Samsung 400GB SATA 3 Gigabits/second transfer speed (that is fast!); $99 at Newegg.com
Much of the issue I think is the underlying code (algorithms) in the software (as I said SONY Vegas works great for me but Adobe sucked); that is a HUGE amount of info that the software is trying to pull off the hard disk and process in real time. As a former computer programmer I can tell you there is efficient code and then there is bloated code that does lousy memory and file management. Hence NLEs that rock and others suck. I know Adobe gives you the option of simply turning off the audio which will speed things up-- you really do not need the audio much at all if just processing video effects anyhow.
If you literally mean you hear ZERO nada no sound at all, not even choppy sound, then you might just have the audio toggled off (go check menu settings), or I suppose it is possible your soundcard is not compatible or needs a driver update.
