$200 per day WITH an Operator?! How much experience comes with such a low rate? (answer: not much)

Standard rental on any gear is roughly 10% of the purchase price. A 5D package with lenses is about five grand, give or take. So the rental price per day for the gear alone should run about around $50 bucks. Then an EXPERIENCED Camera Operator (someone worth the cost of having there) runs at least $500 for a 10 hour day.

So how on earth can a camera package (with EVERYTHING needed, including camera and accessories) (I assume that a lighting and grip package is not included in this nor is sound) cost only $200 dollars?

A standard movie will need at least four weeks to shoot, assuming that someone wants to make something worth watching. Given that schedule, if someone rented a 5D at $200 a day for that length of time, they would be spending $200 x 30 days = $6,000. That price buys someone (who is serious about making a movie that matters) their own 5D camera package.

Given those numbers, I'm just curious as to where the $200 dollar figure came from.

Thanks! 🙂

I forgot to ask about the discount off the unbelievable low price of $200 a day for a complete camera package WITH a human being Operator.

How much less are you offering to pay the "Operator" per day if someone can't afford $200 a day?
