I got a string going about the "180 rule" which keeps the audience orientated to the action but someone added a new term I?d never heard of. I decided to start a new string because I?m sure there are others who can benefit from the answer to this question.

What is ?z-depth??

I'm not sure but I'd guess it means distance from the camera. If you have two characters talking you often have the line drawn between them and determine the 180 from that. But what if one character is much further from the camera than the other? That could cause complications so i think z-depth is probably a term used to help discussions on the matter.

Of course I could be wrong but normally you have x, y and z coordinates to determine the location of anything so it seems pretty logical. My second guess is it is the distance between the actors and the zombie horde attacking them. (c;
