Hey everyone,
My name is Nick Myers. I just recently graduated from Radford University and live in Richmond, Va. I was a Media Studies Major with a concentration in advertising. I am now more interested in the production side of things and am looking at going back to school to get experienced in the filmmaking/production/editing field. I am currently looking at a certificate school in Washington D.C. called the Center for Digital Imaging Arts Boston University. www.cdiabu.com There, they teach an intensive 8 month program called digital filmmaking. I am ready to sign up and apply but I just want to make sure that this will be a good career move for me. Would you all recommend a program like this? Do you think this would be a good step toward a career in filmmaking/production/editing? I really appreciate any feedback you can give me.

Thanks.

This is just me, but I don't believe in cramming, because you will sacrifice far too much quality just to get that piece of paper. That said, if you already have a degree in media studies, and you know what you're doing, then this may be the program for you. And to see if this is so, talk to the students and the lecturers, get a feel for the atmosphere, then talk to the grads and other people who know the program, and then decide.

One last thing - don't go to the best school; go to the school that you are comfortable with. Comfort level is very important in life, be it personal matters or career development.

Yea I know what you are saying about the cramming. The way the program works though is that you only take one class a week, from 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday. I like this setup because it allows you to focus just on that one subject rather then multiple all at the same time. I have been to an open house and seen the facilities but need to talk to more people about it. The school has only been open for 5 years at the University of Boston, and only 2 years in the D.C. area so it is a little difficult to find people who have been through the program but I have been trying to contact a couple of alumni. Thank you very much for your response and anyone else who would like to share some advice, it would be greatly appreciated.
