I'm half of a songwriting team who has mostly targeted country music acts. We also write a lot of music that would be considered more singer/songwriter/Americana, and not really suitable for Nashville.
Writing solely for Nashville can be artistically a little stifling, so we'd like to explore the possibility of custom-writing songs for indie films. We're not really interested in scoring entire films-- more about writing songs to fit particular scenes. My co-writer is a world-class lyricist, and we have the ability to provide finished masters to which we own all performance rights.
Up-front sync fees are not really something that would be that important to us at this point. To start we're just trying to gain experience and hopefully earn a solid reputation in what would be a new genre/industry for us.
We're aware of companies who specialize in placement of music for films, and we do work with one such company, but they are more into placing existing songs into films. Our desire is to establish relationships and work directly with indie filmmakers to write music specifically for their films.
Any advice from those in the industry would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

In my experience as an actor is always either check out the local indie scene via Craigslist or even look for local colleges and schools to see if anyone is interested in using your work. A lot of the times, you need to go out there and just put your info out so people can see and hear.
Based on what I hear, it sounds like you guys have a really great sound. Very ambient and somewhat rustic. Its got a really nice flavor. Also, just do a search for local production houses around your area and even in heavy film areas, like New York, Boston and LA. Since everything is done over the internet, you can easily e-mail and send your work.
