I plan on embarking on an exciting adventure in the near future and would love to create a documentary about my trip. The only problem is that I have no idea about film making. I watch a lot of (reality) documentaries on cable and have no doubt that with the right touch my trip could be amusing to many viewers. My question to the forum is.. Would it be enough for me to buy a decent camera shoot a lot of film then have someone else make sense of it or would I need someone who knows motion pictures to follow me around to get the footage I would need for a decent documentary?
First it depends on whether you want to be in the documentary or not? If not then sure you could just film everything you want yourself, just make sure that its filmed to your satisfaction after you record something, because it would suck to have to go and do the trip again just to film something. And after you have filmed it all you could either edit it yourself or work with a pro.
Thank you for your input. Yes I would be in the film but I will be accompanied by a friend who could film for me. I wanted to make sure the footage we shot would be acquit to produce a quality film. Any camera sugestions?
What price range are you looking at buying from?
