... to find film makers looking for help?

More specifically, I have spent the last couple of years learning my way around After Effects during my spare time while working in IT. I got laid off and there are no jobs available where I live, so I'm looking at this as an opportunity to make a career change.

After doing a lot of researching, it looks like the best way to get my foot in the door is to offer to do all the 'crap' nobody else likes to do and agree to do it for free. But I'm having a hard time finding sites where I can get in touch with indy film makers (or anyone, for that matter) who could use my help.

Thanks!

First it would help to know what jobs you think are the "crap" nobody likes to do.

Then it would help to know where you live. If there are no job where you live are
you willing to travel to work those crap jobs for free? If all you need are links to
websites I know of a few. Which ones have you already found so I don't give you
info you already have.

I have no idea what others may not wish to do. I see "rotoscoping" talked about as an intern type of job...

I am in Topeka, Kansas and I have contacted every studio and television station within 200 miles with my resume and a cover letter offering to intern for free. However, given that I am in my 40's and there are a couple of film schools in Northeast Kansas, I'm sure they're going with the young people still in or just out of college.

I figured my best bet is to find some indie film makers with little to no budget who could use all the free help they can get. So I'm trying to find as many places as I can to get my message out to as many of them as I can find.

As long as I continue to take out the trash, do the dishes a few times a week and not miss any of my daughter's recitals, my wife is being extremely supportive and giving me an open window to pursue my dream.
