I've noticed people on this forum "hate" youtube.
Why? I'm not being snarky...I'm genuinely curious.
I have no opinion either way, although I must admit I do have a popular video about a horse rescue on youtube (typo in the text and all?8D?)...but I just posted it there so I could show my horse friends the story. I can't email it. Honestly, most of the "most viewed" videos are a huge waste of my time, but I still don't hate youtube anymore than I hate the radio because I feel there is nothing worth listening ever played on it (I really feel that way - thank gawd for XM radio).
Since most of you are real film makers or will be real film makers, does it offend you to have to wade through all the dribbles, or what?
I've seen a couple short films there that literally took my breath away - one was about paper swans and the A Bomb...it was stunning. It was stop-action, and the characters were done in oragami.
I'm not opposed to You-Tube. I would hate to browse around looking for something but if given a proper link it's fine.
It works well with Mac and PCs (and even Solaris). Quality is pretty low but they are paying for hosting fees so that's a small price to pay.

I'm not really offended by the amount of garbage on youtube. It is just a pain to wade through a bunch of videoblogs trying to find legitimate films. Atomfilms is usually much better.
Other problems i have with youtube is it butchers the quality of video, and i've had my uploads sound become desynced.
Personally i think websites such as YouTube are the way forward for amateur filmmakers but i think the 'propper' videos should be vetted out and put in a separate part for genuine peoople to look at.

In my humble opinion it is just a matter of time before film groups, clubs, universities, start creating webpages of links to films stored on You-Tube or a similar service. Why wait for You-Tube to filter out for you when you can use their service as storage and have your own filter.
The problem with You Tube is similar to MySpace. There is a ton of clutter and distractions. Sometimes this can be fun, browsing and enjoying similar films, sometimes it can give you a headache and prevent you from finding the movie your friend told you about.

I hate youtube because I am a contrary dickface, as my dear friends so thankfully informed me.
Its like myspace.
I hate it, but I have one.
That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough! I'm going to clown college!

Your honesty is actually charming ;).
OK, so I get it now. I wasn't aware of any other place where actual film makers can post their work........but....then I need to ask - who will police THAT space and keep out the clutter? We all have different ideals about what should be considered art, don't we? Some of the most popular stuff on youtube is really, really sorry. Yet it's so popular. Like TV; there's that stupid show "House"...I feel like I'm the only person in the world who hates it...everyone looks at me like I'm nuts because I can't stand it. So, I'm wondering what would keep the new places up to snuff?

Oh my...I've never seen anything like Atomfilms before. Thank you for mentioning it! I'm off to stoke up a pot of coffee and sit on my butt watching some films for a few hours! Yes!
Mind Trip is about a boy who has blackout/'mind trips' the twist at the end is to leave the audience in suspence wether its all been in his mind or what?

John, the first link I had showed an ad with Sally Field...lol (hence my question).
Nice job - I am not experienced so I won't add comment but I thought an was very good first movie. You got excellent advice (on youtube) and I enjoyed reading the comments there. Keep it up and best of luck to you!

Often enough to know about you 😉
ALL RIGHT!!! WHOS BEEN TALKING TO WHOM?!??
I don't know whether to be delighted, honored, or in shock.
I'll aim for all three.
But I'll have you know, this relationship will not work. I simply cannot stand sleeping with my computer, it gets a bit awkward. I've already had to have its ports replaced twice....
I'll stop before I get too crude.
