I'm going off to college this August to major in film, and my parents are going to buy my a laptop for graduation. I plan to work on my own shorts on my free time and I will most likely end up editing them on my own computer bacause if im doing these projects between class and my job i'll probably be editing at 3 or 4 AM in my dorm. I hear Mac's are the best for film editing, and that's what I have ben useing but iv'e never relly tryed useing anything elce. What kind of laptop would you buy if you were me?

If I were you I'd get any, current MacBook, load up on as much RAM as it will handle
and at an external hard drive of at least 250GB.
I still use my 17 inch PowerBook G4 running the latest version of FCP. If you go to
powermax.com you'll find them "pre-owned" and I can vouch for them. Excellent
products and service.

id suggest a macbook pro with a 17" screen on the used market - the bigger the screen the better for editing
Hi Guy! I'm a newbee...wannabee filmmaker.
I know everybody here is talking about the MAC but I'm a PC guy.
Would that be OK.
Nothing against mac's...i'm just comfy with a pc.
Suggestions please!
Hey Sri,
My suggesiton to you then is to invest in Adobe Premiere, which is more or less exactly the same as Final cut pro. But to be honest most non-liniar editng software is similar any way. You might even look at investing in Avid which I understand to be a poular choice across the pond.
How ever I myself am also looking at investing in a mac book which I already have experience using.
Hope that helps?

I'm a Mac guy and I can say that using a PC to edit would be OK.

If you got to the Adobe website then you can dowload trial demonstations, im not really sure about the Avid website as I have never been on it, how ever I would imagine that you could do the same thing from there.
