I'm a relative novice of such things and have one short under my belt, My friend recently gave me his old version of after effects 6.5 to go along with the premier pro that I already use. It is my understanding that it is a visual effects program. what are some of the things I can do with it? Green screen stuff? gun shot effects? composite shots? and what tutorials are available?
I haven't used After Effects myself (I use eyeon Fusion for effects), but you should be able to do all those kind of things with some work.
there is a ton of stuff that you can do with after effects. Pretty much, if you can imagine it, you can do it. Spend some time looking through tutorials, you'll start to learn how to do lots of things. You can do all of those things that you mentioned, and more. Like for instance:
