Ok this fall I am going to begin production on a World War II film. However I want that sort of washed out/newsreel look that you see in Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan. Anyone know how ot accomplish this?

It's called bleach bypass. Here is a thread on a different forum that talks about it a bit.

Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers etc use a technique called "skip bleach processing". You can find out more about this in the Cinematography section of the FAQ.
