I know when it comnig to Indie films, filmmaker seek distribution thru film fesitvals, DVD outlets, etc. But when it comes to a
TV pilot, how do filmmaker's find a way to get it on TV?

There are a number of ways you can do this from what I understand. First, you can pitch a script to a network, but you should be an established writer first. Second, you can pitch an idea with spec scripts, but you need to be a really established writer first. And Third, you can produce a sample pilot and pitch it to networks. It helps a lot to have some financial backing going in, and a production company picked out to produce it.
