I am traveling Europe for 2 years and want to make little movies as I go. I just bought a Panasonic PV-GS500 because I did some research and it seemed like the best buy for my budget. The picture quality of the 3CCD is awesome and I can carry it anywhere.
My main questions may seem silly so I apologize in advance.
What's the best way to get rid of camera shake when doing a scene that can't be filmed on a tripod?
What's the best entry level editing software? I want to be able to slow scenes down, speed them up, go to black and white, all the basics, but also add mp3 soundtracks. The Panasonic software seems decent but I have a hard time believing the free software that comes with the camera is any good???
How many time can a tape be recorded over before the image quality is no good??
Any tips on shooting outdoors? Indoors?
I really don't know much about this but I really want to dive right in..
thanks in advance for any tips!!!
James
Some software can eliminate a bit of shake. The program Shake for example, which is a special effects compositing program by Apple says it can eliminate camera jitters to some extent.
Also a lot of cameras have pretty decent shake elimintion settings but it will cost you in overall picture quality since they borrow memory to do so forcing a smaller or less resolute picture in the process.

The best way to shoot handheld is with the widest lens you have...shoot wide and get closer to your subject if you have to....that cuts down on the amount of movement. And if you can add in some kind of simple steadicam device...budget permitting.
