Titanic clip in my movie

Hey there.

I am filming a short, personal, church rendition of Titanic. And I would like to put a few clips from the actual movie in it (i.e the ship, the ship sinking, etc.) How should I go about doing this. I am using a Hi8, I believe. I was thinking to just film the clip right off the television screen. Should I be doing it differently? And yes, I am aware of the copyright issues. It is just for a church thing and isn't a big deal in the least. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Ed.

Hi,

If you're shooting on Hi8 and planning to edit on a PC, you'll need to have access to a capture card that can capture analogue video. In which case, all you need to do is plug the VCR/DVD player into this same capture card, and capture the bit of Titanic that you want to use.

Alternatively, you can rip the DVD onto your computer using one of the many tools available. Do a search on Google for "DVD ripping" and you'll probably find a whole bunch.

Ben.

k, well wutever you do don't film straight off the tv, a hi8 camera cannot process a tv screen quick enough and will be very fuzzy and you will barely if all be able to see what you are filming, you will need to go all the way up to a gl1 or so to get even a decent picture if you plan on doing that, the best bet would be just to take the clips and import them into your editor....hope that helps

You'll be OK for recording off the TV, since both camera and TV record at 60Hz. However, it won't look great.

As mentioned above, the best idea would be to rip the footage from the DVD to your computer, and edit it into the movie from there.
