Hi there. I am a film student and a very, very shy person. I have to do a film (shooting on real film) for an advanced film production class. Since its kind of a big thing, we have to get real locations. I need to find a Diner that will let me shoot in.
I'm heading over to one tomorrow to see if the owner is in, or a manager, to see if I can get permission to shoot. But I was wondering if you guys had any tips on how to go about this to increase my chances for success, or things to be mindful of, etc.
Be professional and polite and dressed well. It's already late but having a business card to hand over would probably help as well. You should know exactly what you want to film in their location and roughly how long it will take, and how many people you will probably have running about. Don't lie about anything.
You might want to be ready with an extra part or something as well in case the owner has a daughter or son, girlfriend or wife, or something. (c;

Great tips and offering the free advertisement that filming there will bring always helps too.
