Does anyone have any thoughts or advice on filming with an 8mm Canon camcorder? I really want to get good quailty movie.

I would definitely upgrade, since I'm assuming you're talking about the video camera and not the film camera.
To be honest, 8mm won't give you a very good look. It's also a pain to edit 8mm cassette tapes. What was your plan for editing anyway?
I'm a firm believer that you can make a good movie with any camera, but you'll need more expensive cameras to give that good movie a good look. Well, that's not 100% true either - you need a lot of things besides for the camera to give a good look.
What exactly are you trying to achieve? What's your goals? We can help you better if you have more info.
