Not really, but read it anyway.

I was curious as to what you folks think of this. A friend of mine are about to redo Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring shot for shot. We were a bit bored and feeling rather apathetic. This is what resulted. APATHY IS THE BANE OF CREATIVITY!!!

Remember that Pete, remember that.

Soooo.....anybody got any figures on the plausibility of this? We're taking a public opinon poll of sorts. We've got everything down except for a green screen which is getting built in my basement.

Any ideas? On anything? Cheap costumes? Beards? Weapons?

ANYTHING!?!?!?

That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough! I'm going to clown college!

Bad idea. Shot for shot remake idea was not well accepted when they tried it with Psycho. You're also picking a three plus hour film. Since you don't have the rights you can't even use the finished product so what is the point?

Much better to write up your own version. If you make a parody you don't need the rights, you can make it shorter, and you could even parody certain scenes shot for shot (but change the dialogue). Mel Brookes has been mining this technique for years now.

Well, to tell you the truth, this is more for our own entertainment than for anything else. We are simply testing our creative limits to see what we can do.

Also, if we pull it off, we'll be heros in our own minds. What else are we supposed to do Senior year? We're going through a rather dry time as far as screenplays go.

And It will be parodied, though not to the max. We came to the conclusion to throw in the LOTR flash videos and have the people act them out.

Hell, it would be incredible if it didn't turn into a parody. We're not taking it too seriously.

I would still suggest something that wasn't 9 hours long. I'd pick on the Matrix instead, but that's me.

It might be funny if you did Lord of the Rings in the style of Peter Jackson's Brain Dead. Over the top gore and comedy. Still, it's 9 hours and even if its great few will have the energy to complete the project let alone watch the finished bit all the way through.

One possibility would be to make an original movie that shows your talent as a filmmaker and could be entered in student film festivals.

OK yes, but you're missing the arid wasteland of our creativity.

We've got nothing. We did all that last year.

ANd that would be entertaining RJ. I must concur.

I say go for it! It's obvious you're just doing it for fun. So have fun with it.

For all the time you'd be putting into such a project, I really think that you'd be far better off doing as certified instigator said - make your own original work and enter it into a film festival.
The fun will still be there (you'll most likely have more fun doing your own project anyway), and you'll have a chance to actually get somewhere with it. I've started off before with a similar idea, but motivation can quickly be lost when you realize how much work must be done for almost no payoff. Sure, you get the satisfaction of completing such a daunting task, but there really is an even greater sense of accomplishment if you put all of this effort into your own film.

Want some inspiration? Check out something called Belegarth. I warn you though; if you are not the kind of man who can appreciate Dungeons and Dragons, this may be overwhelming.

Well personally I think we're all taking this a bit too seriously folks. AND THE NEXT TIME YOU TELL ME TO MAKE MY OWN MOVIE I'M GOING TO SCREAM!!!!
Well, you get what I mean. I'll scream on MY end of things.

Honestly, its for the hell of it.

And thank you Conan. I certainly will check it out. D and D is a good pasttime.
And thank you modest mouse for the undying support and loving affection. I will reward you in the afterlife.

Anything else production wise that would be of any service or are we all going to continue arguing over wheter or not its the right thing to do?

No one is arguing with you. This is a discussion board and people are discussing. You are free to ignore any advice given. But you won't be able to control what advice people want to give you. You asked for a public opinion and you got it. Looks like it wasn't the opinion you wanted, but you DID ask.

When do you start shooting this shot for shot redo?

Not to mention that LOTR had a multi-million dollar budget with aeriel and other shots quite difficult to create.
