Does it matter what kind of MiniDv tapes you use? Can you use a Panasonic tape in a Canon MiniDv? Is the quality different?

You can use any brand in any camera. The conventional wisdom is
to stick with one brand. The lubrication on the tape is different
for each brand.

I've found that to be very true. I use Panasonic Master Quality tapes
in my JVC and my partner uses nothing but Sony in his Canon. When
he uses Panasonic he has troubles and when I use Sony my tape
heads get gummed up.

You can use any brand that you prefer, but some people find that its best to use one particular brand and stick with it as

A.) They feel they get a better quality from particular manufactuers.

B.) Some people belive that you lose quality if you continually change brands.

A tip for you though regardless of what type of tape you opt to use, always fast forward your tape on a little bit before you start to record, this is because more ofton than not if a tapes going to malfuction then its more likely to happen right at the very beginning of the tape.
