is it okay to take ideas and techniques from other directors to make my own films, even if the resemblence may be obvious... cuz i feel guilty in copying others.

You wont get into trouble. But you wont win any film festivals either.

Take a look at the Coen Brother films... is there anything in any of them that isn't taken from another film or makes reference to another film (or literature)?

But they are still original films... it's about how you take the ideas, and which ideas you take. The Matrix is obvious... making reference to a scene from The Big Sleep or Citizen Kane is not going to be obvious. The Coen's do it because they love the films they're refering to - and they therefore do it with respect... not because they think it's a great shot they want to steal!

Does that help?
