Its been the general consensus not to switch tape brands as the lubrications gum up, however i receive multiple tape brands from different people and im wondering if this will gum up my transfer deck and if there is anything i can do about it.
Also, will a gummed up transfer deck transfer its gum to the tape?

What formats(s)? For the most part, no. You can ride professional decks pretty hard- the vast majority of post houses get work from many different production sources. But you still need to maintain them. I've never had the lubrication problem, but I know that a poorly maintained betacam deck can start to cut up outputs.
