Hi there! If you mean a reel to convense people you are a good Director, Just get a small DV camera and a Small Editing shop (Windows Movie Maker) and make a "Feature Length movie" ... The problems with short films is that the Producers will ask you, Well you do on a Small Shoot... But how about a LONG shoot... So please them as best you can in your demo reel. Make sure you hire a LOT of acters and be sure they are good, as this is what most people go on to hire someone.

P.S)
ALWAYS USE A TRIPOD....
ALWAYS USE A STEDICAM when walking with a camera... this "Shakyness" can make a lot of peoducers sick before they even finnish your demo!

darkcaver is assuming you want to make a director reel. if you're a dp, you'll want to keep it under 15 min and show you're versitle, creative and what ever your specialty might be.

as for the tripod and steady cam thing, i agree with that to a point, but ALWAYS is a strong word, sometimes a little movement gives a scene more feeling and character.

Yes, I agree. I should not have used "Always" in that post. Sorry. But I do most "Always" use a Steady Device for the camera. Unless im making a wild action scene were you need the "Shaky" shoulder mounted camera moves.
