am i correct that you can only use kodak 'film' on special cameras right? so if i have a JVC camcorder i cant use 'film' right? i'm just making sure...

im stupid...

That is correct, you can only use film with film cameras (8mm, 16mm, 35mm). Camcorders take a magnetic tape (Beta, 8mm, VHS, C-VHS, DV, MiniDV, etc.).

Personally, I feel comparing film to video is like comparing apples to oranges. Comparing film to film, 8mm would be at the low end and 35mm would be the high end. With video, I believe it is VHS at the low end and DV at the high end (I've seen it listed from worst to best on these forums somewhere).

Really what format you choose should depend on the look you are trying to achieve and any budget constraints you are working within. I personally am on a tight budget so I use MiniDV for it's low cost and ease of use.
