in the January 20, 2003 issue of IMDB's "ask a director," a guy named Jason you how one gets their foot in the door of straight to video productions. Spheeris said, "They?ve made a lot of money, but they haven?t made a lot of great films." But she never answered how one actually gets their foot into the door. I'd love to get into making straight to video martial arts movies with names like, "Fighters of Death 4 - Revenge of Blood" or something like that. I'd love to get into writing/directing and I think I have some talent but I'm a realistic person and if it's unreasonable to get into the big time director's chair, then I figured the straight-to-video film industry would at least be a fun way to work. Does anyone have ANY insight into this issue? Anyone know how much these guys make? How this stuff works?? ANYTHING?? PLEASE help me out here since I basically know NO ONE in entertainment and I have no one to get answers from.

thanks in advance,

onixoforin

Working in "straight to video" is no different from any other film job, and there is loads of information on this web site about it.

Suggestion: if you want people to reply to your posts you should avoid asking wildly generic questions as these are virtually impossible to answer without writing an essay about the subject.

We've suggest reading the Internet Filmmakers FAQ section on Film School and Career as a starting point, then post your specific questions after that.
