Hello all,

I have been trying to figure out the best way to put a stopwatch into my movies--you know like during the Olympics the time of the race shows up on the bottom left hand of the screen. I have a Mac and had iMovie and Final Cut Pro.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I haven't done any editing on a Mac before. I know that with Vegas on Windows you can set up scripts to automate things like timers. If the stopwatch isn't running for too long, you could always just add text like normal and then update it every frame or couple of frames. Anyone that uses a Mac regularly could probably come up with something better.

Actually I was just playing around in Vegas and there's an effect called "Sony Timecode" that does exactly what you're talking about. I'd imagine Final Cut Pro has a similar feature; if not, I could always export a clip of the timer with the alpha channel data (I think that's possible) and you could overlay it on your video.
