I am starting out in filmmaking and I am wondering if any experienced filmmakers out there can give me a suggestion of a decent starting camera to shoot my pieces. I do not have a large budget, let's say under $500 canadian dollars for a decent digital video camera.
What are my options? Any Suggestions?
This has been discussed a lot here on the boards. Check a few more pages here on the "Newbie" board and on the "Pre-production" board. If none of the previous threads answer your questions you can ask here again.
In short, you'll find while reading the other discussions that there really isn't an all encompassing answer. All cameras in the under $500 Canadian are about the same. I tend to recommend the same camera over and over. You'll see which one as you check out the threads.

Buy the best camera you can afford. I think the GS-150 is a nice camera to start with but I am not sure if it will fit into your budget.

Well thanks for a suggestion anyway, I can probably save a little more if needed.
I'll check that out, thanks again. Beats sifting through 60 pages of newbie questions.
Thanks again.

It's too bad you won't look through the threads here. Many people have offered a lot of really good information about cameras here on the boards. Research can be really helpful for a filmmaker who's just starting out.

You are right it may be a good idea to check the forums, but I didn't find them particularly easy to navigate to find some information.
I will definitely read up on them at a later date when I have the time to. Right now I don't exactly have a lot of time, so I asked for some suggestions.
Fair enough, civilian. I understand not having a lot of free time. When you have the time to do some research, I'll be glad to help you out.
