Ok screen play almost done. Its looking pretty good. I need to finish it up and give it to my other writers cause writing is not my strong point. They will edited it for me and help me with the little problems. But i just thought of something. Im going to start filming real soon. I have 2 JVC GR-DV800US Mini Dv Camcorders. Are these camcorders good for film making? I don't want it to come out like crap. Im going to enter the film in to the long island film festivle i would like it to look some what pro. What do you think?
That's a nice little camera. But it's not what going to make your movie look good. YOU have to do that.
Steady camera work, plenty of coverage and great lighting will make your movie look somewhat pro. Sound is also VERY important, and something most new movie makers neglect.

"Plenty of coverage" - Meaning coverage of camera angles?

Lighting. There is something i didn't think of at all. lol and i want to be a film maker.
Does anyone know a site that has a decent lighting kit that kinda cheap or a good price?
Any local hardware store should have what you need. But as for an actual "Lighting kit" I have no clue.

The better the lighting kit - the more control you have over the look. My minimum setup is:
A Baby 5k
4 Junior 2k?s
2 kino-flo's
2 650w tweenies
4 200w peppers
4 china balls
Used, this set up cost me about $2,000 and I had to rewire most of the lights.
Flags, scrims, nets and gobos (also called a cukaloris or cookie) are essential for a look that is better than your average DV movie.
Not all beginning movie makers can afford this equipment, so you must get creative.
Nets and scrims can be made from pantyhose stretched over bent and formed wire coathangers. Flags, bounceboards and gobos can be made for foam core or even cardboard and aluminum foil.
A few work lights from a hardware store mixed with those silver "scoop" lights, 3 or 4 Chinaballs with homemade dimmers and a bunch of gels can give you a pro look for under $500.
If you're really serious about making your movie look great, it's time to experiment. This is one of the great advantages about video that I didn't have shooting Super8 on all my first films: you can set up a camera and monitor and experiment with lighting and see the results instantaneously.

yeah i got a problem with drummers. they're flaky and most of them can't keep up with me. lol. No, I know there are bad ass drummers out there, but i don't know any. My style is in the lines of God Forbid and Heaven Shall Burn. I play guitar.
BUT i didn't mean to take you from the topic at hand.
I don't see a big future in music, so I've been looking in to films, which was always a goal of mine. But i'm new to all this and don't even know what camera to get. I'm looking for dirt cheap. I intend to do mostly horror, especially while on a bubble gum and tape budget. I want black and white film, but other than that i have no clue.
I've been looking on ebay, but all i see are primative cameras from the '60s and stuff, which i don't have a problem with the age of it, but i worry about being able to but film for it, and whether or not the old ass cam even works. Most of the auctions say the cam looks good but is untested.
for everything under heaven there is a season. there shall be a time of bloodshed.

Personally I would not buy a camera from the 60's.
ok. I just bought what looks like a fairly new kodak super 8 on ebay for $6.50. Any ideas where the best place to get film is? Preferably on-line, as I live in the back woods of oklahoma, and there just isn't stores around with that kind of stuff. All we have here is wal mart. lol

Kodak.com sells film I believe.
In reply to that guy who wouldnt get a camera from the 60s, I've got a Bolex 16mm from 1949 and it works great! My dad picked it up for $25NSD (About $40US) a whole back and I've never had any problems with it.

I too, have several cameras made in the 60's. They are solid, workhorse cameras that require little maintenance. Just a thorough cleaning after every shoot - like any good piece of equipment. Great optics, great movement, solid fps and frame registration. No computer chips to go bad...

thanks. I'm checkin that site out now. I definitely plan on upgrading to a 16mm when I get the cash, but I figured at 6 dollars and 50 cents, plus 8 bucks shipping. i figure it'll give me smething to play with, and given that i'm gonna specialize in horror for the time being, the more distorted film quality may prove an advantage on some shots. Pluss it's fairly small, so it'll be easier to lug around for spur of the moment shots. I don't know. I fgure even after I get a 16mm, I'll probably still use the 8mm for stuff.
thanks for the link!
