Im new to film making but i decided that i want to make a film that i can enter in to the long island film festival next summer. I am running in to alot of problems tho.

1- Story: i have an idea of what i want for the film. Im look for something alittle morbid but im not trying to make a horror film or anything like that. I just looking for a darker mood. But i have no story yet.

2- Budget: I have none. I have 2 mini Dv cams and a crappy editing computer.

3- Crew: so far ive got a 3 man crew 2 cam-men and someone that will help me wright the script after i come up with the idea. No Actors yet

Do you guys have any advice?

1) Coming up with a script idea oftens causes problems. My advice is not to stress over it. An idea will come to you. Just keep your eyes and ears open.

2)You don't need a big budget. Write your script in locations to have access to, and try to avoid using expensive effects like explosions and car chases. Think of what is available to you (this may also help with thinking of an idea) Two cameras is plenty. Thats twice as much as most people I know.

3)I wouldn't be dissapointed with having 3 crew members considering you haven't even got the story idea yet. If extra people are needed, I'm sure they'll jump aboard once the ball gets rolling. Have you been bouncing ideas around with your fellow screenwriter. This may help the creative juices get flowing.

Good luck with your film, and keep us updated with how you go.

Ok i have come up with an idea. I think its an idea that has be used before but im going to add my own ideas in to it to make it diffrent. I think there is a name for the type of film im makeing. Four diffrent people in four diffrent locations but all connected by one object. The object will apear in each one of there storys and play a very important part in there lives. And in the end all these four people meet and are brought together by this object.

What do you think of the idea?

I don't have any actors but my girl friends best freind loves being in front of a cam. So i think thats a pretty good start. At lest thats one of the four covered.

Sounds good. Any ideas on what that object is going to be?

Im thinking as far as the object goes making it a Rose. And having a stalker leaving a rose with each person. And that would bring them together. But im having trouble with connecting the stalker to the people. There needs to be something that connects all the people to the Rose and the stalker with out connecting them to eachother.

Thats what im stuck on. Im having trouble writing a story for the stalker. He must have a reason for stalking these four people. and im having alot of trouble making them all fit together. The four people are very diffrent.

I got a Lonley Gothic Girl, A band member, a rich girl, and a high school stoudent.

Im thinking about making some changes to the whole story to make it work.

Hey, I got a request! Make the band member a drummer! Two reasons why:

1. You wouldn't have to get a guitar or bass. You could just show the guy with a pair or drum sticks all the time, (sticks are small and cheap)

2. Drummers are the best.

So you have no idea how any of this stuff is going to fit together? Mmmm... good luck man. What's the overall feel of the film. Upbeat, scary, sad, intense...

Dunno. Sometimes when you start on a new script, the older one can tend to get forgotten and its harder to get started on it again. However at the same time if you have an idea its importantto get something written down as soon as possible.
Keep the new ideas going, but don't forget other projects.

Q) What do you call someone who follows a band around.
A) A drummer.

Go a guitarist! That way you can have him carry his intrument around with him and maybe play it occasionaly to add a little suspense.
Just a suggestion. Good luck.

Ok i got together with the peroson thats helping me with my film idea. and we have finally decided on a story.

Its about a formore high school student that was abused as a child. He had such bad experiences as a child but the one thing he did love was high school. He had a bad family life but was very popular in school. High school is over now and he can't move on. He is living in the past. He still attends all high school events untill his mother tells him that high school is over and its time to move on but he can't. All the changes he can't dell with in his live slowly drive him insane. Untill he snaps. (Thats where the stalker/Rose idea comes in.)

Needs alittle more work. But at lest im ready to start writing the screenplay.
Im planing on entering in ither the Long Island Film Festivle or the Horror Film Festilve with this project.

This will be my first film. Im sure it will come out like crap. But hopfully i can make it festavile werthy. idk i will let you guys now how its going . Start writing after work tonight.

All I can say is... "ouch." That really stung Company. Well, I dunno about your drummer/band experience. But in my band, I play all the instruments, but since nobody else can play the drums, I get to. I started the band... Yeah.. I love music. I try not to just follow the band but add the most I can, but maybe I'm just the exception.

Q) What do you call someone who follows the band around?
A) A devoted fan.

Dtm115300, if you have a guitar at your disposal I would totally go guitarist too. But I didn't know if you had one available or not. I love playing guitar. Good stuff...

Sounds like your making great progress! Keep us posted!

Yeah, I'm just joking. I've got no problem with drummers.
