What are the laws pertaining to parodies? If I were to do a spoof of a film or series, or what have you, would I be able to show it to anyone?

Is the rule that I just have to make sure everything is original?

Thanks for the help.

Generally speaking, spoofs/parodies are a "freedom of expression" right under most copyright law.

This means that you can normally do them with needing to obtain rights or permissions. However, you should always consult a lawyer to discuss the implications of your specific project before proceeding.
