Now for a begginner filmmaker who has made no films, but is very dedicated to becoming a director. Which one of these cams is best to get for a startet. However, the cam which I would get, I won't plan to get rid of it any time soon. I will plan on entering festivals and all of that sort though. So any advice or comments would helpful. Thank you.

i have the panasonic and i love it...

the problem with the sony is that while their other HD camers are great, that one is more for home use and doesn't have a lot of manual controls.

I researched for a long time, was sold on the Canon XL1 for a long time, and finally my producer suggested the Panasonic DVX100A. I met a documentary guy whose entire crew used DVX100A and he adored it. I read high praises on this forum and others. Although it cost a thousand more I ended up buying the Panasonic.

Don't know much about the Sony HDR-HC1 but the Panasonic is a nice camera.

the panasonic shoots in 24p (which is standard 24 fames a second) like film it is alsoalot better quality (film wise) for festivals and projects like that. the hd camera has the best quality no question. it shoots in High definition duh. if you want to go for the look of looking through a window hd is the way to go. even thoughi think Sincity was shot on the hd camera i still think the 100a is the best way to go
