Hi, I'm buying a camera and it's come down to the Sony DCR-VX2100 vs. the Parasonic AG-DVX100a. From all the reviews I've read, the Sony VX2100 is a great camera with better pichure quality, color, low light, etc than Parasonic's. Plus I found a great deal on one. However, when it comes to filmmaking, all I hear about is this 24 frame progressive with Parasonic DVX100a that mimics film. Yet, the Parasonic is at least a grand more (!) So is it worth it? is the price jacked up just because it is the only camera with the 24 frame progressive? (i heard the xl2 does but that kind of money is outta my range.) Thanks, i appreciate any advice you can give me.

i suppose it really comes down to what style of films you want to make. personally, i would go for the panasonic because at least that way you get the best of both worlds.

Hi,

I had to make the same decision between the same two cameras about 3 months ago. I found the same things you did in the reviews. I was able, however to test both cameras at the school that I was going to. While the sony was a great camera and did handle low light well, the panasonic really impressed me. With proper lighting I was able to make the panasonic give very clean and professional pictures. In low lighting (as long as all the settings are manual and adjusted properly) the Panasonic preformed like a champ! I have since then purchased the Panasonic and couldn't be happier with it. If you take the time to get to know the camera well after you get it, it's capable of doing almost anything you could want it to do. As far as the 24 P goes, that's really a matter of taste. When editing in FCP or Premiere the framerate returns to 30 anyway so it may look filmic while shooting, but it's really your lighting and camera technique that is going to make the difference. Hope that helps you make a decision.
