Okay, what was with the Josh Hartnett character? When Hartigan (Willis) shot himself it should have ended there. I hate that ending and can somebody please explain to me what harnett's character was and if he affected the story

You might get more detail out of someone who read the graphic novels but Josh Hartnett was the assassin who killed the girl at the very start of the movie. The implication is that he was gonna kill the girl in the elevator for betraying the girls to the mob.
